Biography
It's the fall of 1999 when 5 musicians decided
to give life to a ‘different’ project.
‘Different’ from what they were playing or have played
with their former bands. ‘Different’ from the majority
of the music setting at the time. ‘Different’ as a
concept.
Starting
as a rough experimental project Infection Code become an out and
out band. From the very beginning their identity is very clear:
their music knows no boundaries, exploring genders ranging from
the brutality of death metal and grind, to the claustrophobia of
noise and coldness of industrial, with a underground post-core ready
to explode at any time. “We were just having fun, it all begun
as a game. We all met when we all belonged with different bands
and from the very beginning we knew we had a lot in common. That’s
why we decided to do something together, with no preconceived notions”
Says the lead singer Gabriele.
In
2000 Five-Piece release the acclaimed EP ‘H.I.V. 999’
with four songs revealing the band’s cutting edge personality.
Both Italian and foreign critics describe Infection’s sound
as groundbreaking, although complex and strenuous. “We offhandedly
wrote the songs of ‘H.I.V. 999’, we felt a creative
compulsion that led us to the songs”, adds Enrico, bass, electronics
and graphics. After several live shows Infection Codes focused on
their debut album, ‘Life Continuity Point’ released
in 2001. In this album they carry on their courageous project
becoming one of the forefront band in the italian scene. Some compares
them to Fear Factory, some to Strapping Young Lad, some to Meshuggah
and some to Godflesh. In reality it is evident that, though they
do not deny such and many more influences, Infection Code have once
again stretched to its extreme consequences their intricate concept
of reconstructed music. “Creating this album has not been
painless, we had to face several problems inside our group and several
others after the release of the album. Anyway it’s been an
important step in Infection Code’s life because this is when
we started to work on ‘Sterile’” explains Ricky,
drummer.
Shortly after finishing the full-length, two members left the band.
Infection Code weren’t put off, a new member enters their
group, Demetrio Scopelliti, former leader of post-trashers Arcadia,
and they decide to go on as a four members band stronger than ever.
After Demetrio joined the group they recorded ‘Aphasic’,
a song marking the band’s further improvement. It is clear
that Infection Code hate stillness. This song represents a further
evolution of the piedmont group, and for this reason they decided
to add it to the new album ‘Sterile’.
The members are well aware of their achievements but at the same
time they know that their growing process is not over yet. They
keep on portraying the standardized individual evolution. “All
human beings are trapped inside fixed patterns imposed on them by
society. This concept is expressed in our lyrics as well as our
graphics.”
In
2003 Infection Code are chosen to play a french tribute to Godflesh,
in that same year they record ‘Nails’ and they have
to restructure the group, in fact Demetrio has to leave Infection
Code due to personal and professional reasons. He’s replaced
by Davide, guitar, who brings fresh ideas to the band. “It’s
great to belong to the Infection family, i love their cutting edge
sound, free from any gender classification. ‘Sterile’
is totally different from the group’s previous works. “We
managed to create something unique and i’ m terribly proud
of it”, Davide eagerly states.
That underground post-core sound, noted from the very early days
of the band, is mixed with electronic innovations and explodes now
with a larger than life roar.
Producing the album in the Nadir Studios is Tommy Talamanca, from
Sadist, who can rightly be considered the fifth member of the group
and who succeeded in conveying the Infection Code’s rage,
pain and misanthropy into music.
Several artists have appeared in the album, Trevor (Sadist, The
Famili) in ‘Human’, Nico (Conviction) in ‘Produce
Consume Redemption’ and Serena (Nhero) in ‘Candledrome’
and ‘Seventh scar’ as guest vocalist.
Sterile has many good reviews in many European magazines and web
zines. The band, in 2004 and 2005, played in Italy and some European
country(Germany, Czech Republic) to support Sterile, with acts like
Antrhax, Cult of Luna, Barcode, Sadist, The Ocean. Actually the
band 's writing new stuff for the following album called INTIMACY.
A new sonic chapter where experimental noise meets the sickness
and feelings of own human beings. INTIMACY will be recorded in Italy
at Nadir Studios and it will be mixed and mastered by BILLY ANDERSON
in USA producer of important and prestigious albums such as Neurosis’s”
Through silver in Blood”, Brutal Truth’s” Sounds
of an animal kingdom”, Sick Of It All’s “Scratch
the Surface”, Mr Bungle’s” California”.
Actually the band has finished to record the album and in March
they will fly in USA to meet Billy Anderson and start the cooperation
for Intimacy.
Meantime the band are planning a tour in this spring with some gigs
in Europe(Germany, Holland, France, Italy) and it will start a large
tour for this autumn when INTIMACY will be out for worldwide. Meantime
Infection Code announce to have signed a deal with Beyond Productions.
The new upcoming work, entitled "Intimacy", has been recorded
at Nadir Studios by Tommy Talamanca, mixed and produced by Billy
Anderson at Lowered One Studios in San Francisco. The album, due
in Autumn and distributed worldwide through the Masterpiece Distribution
channels, is pre announced as a new step by the band into experimental
sonorities, feature usually bided to each Infection Code album.
This time much more obscure, dirt and disturbing than ever, post
death metal/noise quite near to names such as Neurosis, Godflesh
and Today is the Day.
